
Women's Basketball's Western Road Trip Begins Thursday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Jacksonville State heads to New Mexico State on Thursday for a showdown against the Aggies at the Pan American Center. The Gamecocks snapped a five-game losing skid against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Feb. 15 at home and look to carry that winning momentum out west.

Last Time Out
Jax State ended a five-game losing streak with a 68-55 home victory over LA Tech. The Gamecocks' defense held LA Tech to five first quarter points in the win. While Jax State's defense shined in the first half against the Lady Techsters, the offense came alive in the second quarter. Jax State jumped out to a 27-9 lead midway through the second before carrying a 34-18 advantage into halftime. LA Tech got within 12 in the third, but Valentina Saric hit one of her six threes in the third to squash the Lady Techsters' comeback efforts.
Series History
Jax State holds a 3-0 all-time record over the New Mexico State Aggies. The Gamecocks took the first ever matchup in the Pete Mathews Coliseum on Feb. 3, 2024, in a 56-49 triumph. The Red-and-White then improved to 2-0 at home against NMSU on Jan. 25, 2025, with a 60-56 win. Jax State's lone game in Las Cruces, N.M., resulted in a 60-51 win on March 2, 2024.
Shoot it Saric
In last Saturday's home win over LA Tech, junior forward Valentina Saric set a new career high with 19 points. She hit 6-11 threes to mark a new career-best in threes made in a single game as well. Besides a made free throw, every other point Saric had against the Lady Techsters came from beyond the three-point line.
Double-Double Day
Senior forward Asia Barclay had herself a day against LA Tech as well. Barclay posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Her previous double-double this season came against Sewanee back on Nov. 25 this season where she poured in 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in that game as well.
Watching the Leaderboards
Mya Barnes sits at fourth in the CUSA in total number of blocks and average blocks per game. Barnes has 31 blocks thus far for an average of 1.3 rejections per game. Samiya Steele is tied for eight in the league in average assists per game at 2.7 per contest. She has 59 dimes this year. Meanwhile, Elsie Harris is tied for ninth in the league in assists per game averaging 2.6. Harris has 62 total assists.
Scouting the Aggies
New Mexico State is coming off a 1-1-week. The Aggies fell 63-58 at Liberty on Thursday, Feb. 13, before getting a 65-55 victory at Florida International on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Aggies have one of the nation's most prolific scorers on their squad. Molly Kaiser is leading the league with an average of 21.6 points per game. That number also ranks her ninth in all of NCAA Division I in scoring. Kaiser also leads them in assists with 62 this season.
Kaiser is not the only issue the Gamecocks will be dealing with from NMSU's team. Fanta Gassama is averaging 9.5 points per game and pulls down 8.9 rebounds per game. Jaila Harding is averaging 7.8 points per game and shoots 37.8% from three.
