DENVER, COLO. – Jacksonville State's men's tennis team dropped a highly competitive match against Utah State Saturday in Denver, Colo. The neutral site match was played at Denver University where the Gamecocks will play Sunday to round out their western road trip.
Jax State falls to 3-3 on the year with the loss, while Utah State improves to 6-3 thus far.
The Gamecocks were able to win the doubles point to kick off the match.
Lucius Soller and
Zach Murphy, who now have a 5-0 record as a doubles team, won their match over David Martirosian and Eliot Nobel 6-2.
David Krasner and Marko Milosaljevic played a tough but eventually lost 7-5 to Mohammad Alkotop and Dmitri Goubin.
The doubles point came down to the Gamecocks pairing of
Timo De Visser and
Logan Haga versus Sergi Mico Fenollar and Keanu Rigby. The match was a close one that De Visser and Haga managed to pull out 7-5 in a tie breaker.
Fenollar got some revenge against De Visser in singles play as he downed the Gamecocks' quality freshman 6-2, 6-1 on court one in the first singles court final.
Charlie Penman was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Utah State's Roman Venger, and
Aman Dahiya was beaten by Goubin 6-3, 6-2.
Matei Palcau got the first singles point for the Gamecocks in a straight-set win in his match against Eemil Pasanen. Palcau won by the same score of 6-3 in both sets. Krasner then took the victory on his court against Nobel in a straight-set triumph by the same score of 7-5 in both sets.
The match came down to Milosavljevic and Alkotop on court two. Alkotop took the first set 6-2 before the second set went down to the wire. Alkotop eventually took the set 7-6 over Milosavljevic to close out the win for the Aggies.
