Jax State Falls at No. 25 Alabama In Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Jacksonville State's six-game winning streak came to a halt with a 20-11 loss to No. 25 Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The Crimson Tide powered its way to the win with six home runs, including five in the second inning off of the Gamecocks. UA opened the game with a three-run blast in the first inning before sending 15 batters to the plate in the 13-run inning.

Junior transfer Carson Hornung highlighted Jax State's offense along with the bottom half of the order. His day started with his first home run as a Gamecock. Hornung answered Alabama's home run with a solo blast over the centerfield wall. He also started Jax State's two-run fourth inning and scored on sophomore Sam Silas' two-run double down the left field line.

Hornung turned in his first multi-hit and multi-RBI contest with a single in the fifth inning. Jax State added more runs in the fifth inning with its second home run of the contest as junior Ace Williamson belted a three-run dinger over the short porch in right field. It's his second home run in as many games for the transfer from Southern Union Community College.

Hornung and Williamson were joined by Silas and Hegwood with multiple hits. Hornung finished with three hits and reached base four times. Williamson also turned in a trip of hits on the day.

Along with a single from junior Ace Williamson in the inning, junior Colton Hegwood added a pair of RBI with a two-run single to left centerfield in the Jax State fourth frame.
