BOWLING GREEN, KY. – Gamecocks women's basketball concludes their four-game road swing with a showdown at Western Kentucky on Saturday. The Gamecocks and Hilltoppers are set for a 2 p.m. tipoff inside E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky.

Last Time Out
Jacksonville State fell 63-46 on Thursday, Jan. 6, to current CUSA leader Middle Tennessee. The Gamecocks held a two-point advantage over the Blue Raiders at halftime, but stout defense by MTSU held the Gamecocks to only six points in the third quarter. The Blue Raiders also got hot in the third as they shot 54.6% from the field after intermission.
Series History
Jax State is 0-3 all-time against Western Kentucky. The first time the two teams faced was in Jacksonville on Jan. 13, 2024, when WKU defeated the Gamecocks 62-52. The most recent matchup was earlier this season at the Pete Mathews Coliseum when the Hilltoppers downed the Red-and-White 51-44.
Clara's Night
Although the Gamecocks fell at Middle Tennessee on Thursday, Clara Gonzalez Planella shined for Jax State. Planella scored a team-high 17 points off the bench on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc. The 17 points was the second highest point total she has scored in her first season at the division one level. Her career high was 19 points at Utah Valley on Dec. 16, 2024.
Gamecocks' Defense
Jax State's defense has proven to be one of the best in the CUSA this season. The Gamecocks rank fourth in the league in opponent field goal percentage as they allow only 39.6% of their opponents' shots to fall. The Gamecocks' three-point defense is even better as they rank first in the conference in opponent three-point percentage. The Red-and-White only give up 24.5% of threes to fall from their opponents. Finally, Jax State gives up 59.4 points per game, enough for second in the conference.
Scouting the Hilltoppers
Western Kentucky sits in third place in the CUSA with a 16-6 overall record and 7-3 record in conference play. The Hilltoppers are coming off a dominating 78-57 home victory over Kennesaw State on Thursday. WKU also ended Middle Tennessee's 33-game conference winning streak inside E.A. Diddle Arena back on Jan. 18.
Josie Gilvin had a team-best 28 points against Kennesaw on Thursday, Acacia Hayes had 20, and Alexis Mead added 15. Mead is leading the Hilltoppers with an average of 13.3 points per game. She also has 90 assists this season. Destiny Salary is second in scoring for WKU averaging 12.5 points per game, Hayes is averaging 12.0 points, and Gilvin is averaging 11.2 points per contest.
