FLORENCE, ALA. – Men's tennis lost a hard-fought match Monday afternoon at North Alabama. The Lions defeated the Gamecocks 4-2 at the UNA Tennis Courts thanks to taking the doubles point and only giving up two losses in singles play.
David Krasner and
Marko Milosavljevic's doubles court was the first to be completed. Krasner and Milosavljevic's pairing fell 6-2 to Nazar Fedoryshyn and Birtan Duran on court two.
Lucius Soller and
Zach Murphy lost their match in a 6-4 final on court one to Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles.
Timo De Visser and
Logan Haga were leading 5-4 on court three against Satoru Nakajima and Samuel Balfour Dominguez, but the match went unfinished after the Lions claimed the doubles point.
Krasner and Altur faced off on court three in the first singles match to conclude. Altur defeated Krasner 7-5, 6-3 in that match. Murphy was then downed by Nakajima in a 6-4 first set and 7-6 tiebreaking second set on court five to put the Lions ahead 3-0.
Aman Dahiya got the Gamecocks on the board with a win on court four against Duran. Dahiya won 6-2 in the first set before taking the second set 7-6 in tiebreakers in the second set. Milosavljevic then took his singles match against Orgiles sparked by a 6-1 opening set victory. Orgiles took the second 6-3, before Milosavljevic answered with a 6-2 win in the third to make it 3-2 in favor of the Lions.
Matei Palcau and Dominguez's match rounded out the action with Dominguez clinching the win for North Alabama. Dominguez won the first set 6-3, but Palcau took the second 6-3. Dominguez eventually won the third set 6-3 as well. De Visser won his first set against Lachlan Brain 6-3. Brain took the second 6-4 and was ahead 3-0 in the third, but the match was unfinished as UNA took the match victory.
Jax State moves on to play at South Carolina State on Thursday for a 12 p.m. first-serve.
