JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's tennis downed Conference USA foe Sam Houston 4-0 Friday afternoon. The Gamecocks got the dominate home victory thanks to winning the doubles point before clinching three wins in singles action.
The Gamecocks improve to 6-4 with the result, while Sam Houston falls to 4-5 on the season.
Polina Ramenskaja and Ella Tuomela teamed up for a 6-3 doubles triumph over Jacqueline Schnabel and Nayuma Subba on court one. Irene Artigas and Aneka Patel got a 6-3 win on court three over Christine Jevicky and Adit Venkatakrishna to help take the doubles point.
Lea Erenda and Anna Syrova were leading 6-5 on court two, but their match against Aaliyah Hohmann and Ella Fitcher went unfinished as the Gamecocks had taken the doubles win.
In singles action, Syrova dominated Schnabel 6-0, 6-0 on court three. Artigas won a hard fought 7-5 set one over Sara Sadadinovic on court five before handling business in the second set 6-1. Zuzana Pavelekova cleaned things up for the Gamecocks with her win on court six over Fitcher. Pavelekova won 6-1 in the first, then took the second 6-3.
Ramenskaja lost her opening set against Subba 6-3 and was down 4-3 in the second before the match on court one went unfinished. Erenda won her opening set on court two 6-4 against Jevicky. Erenda led 5-4 in the second before the match was called. Patel was victorious in her opening set against Venkatakrishna 6-4, but she dropped the second 6-1. Patel's match was tied at one point apiece when the Gamecocks clinched the win.
The Gamecocks are back in action on Saturday against Murray State. The match at the Jax State Tennis Courts has been moved to 9:30 a.m. due to threat of inclement weather in the afternoon.
