JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State erased a 4-2 decision in the ninth inning and walked off Southeast Missouri in the 10th inning with a 5-4, series-clinching win on Sunday at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.
The Gamecocks were down to their final strike when redshirt freshman
Cooper Blauser picked a perfect time for his first home run in a Jax State uniform with a two-run blast over the left field wall. Blauser's blast was the third home run of the day for the Gamecocks and scored four-of-the-five runs on home runs.
Blauser finished with three hits on the day in his final three plate appearances. He turned in a double in the fifth, a single in the seventh before his ninth inning heroics.
Freshman
Matthew Cash, who had the previous two walk-off hits for the Gamecocks this season, lashed a one-out double to the gap in left field. After SEMO made a pitching change with Alex Hayes, freshman
Trey Majette greeted him with a single to left field for the walk-off victory.
The come-from-behind win for the Gamecocks was the fourth of the season and the second last at bat win this season.
Jax State had to claw its way back into the contest all day after the Redhawks took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. SEMO strung together three hits against Gamecock starter
Karson Bonaparte highlighted by a two-run single by Michael Mugan.
Junior
Grayson Ashe also had a three-hit outing and it all started with a solo blast to answer SEMO's three-runs in the top half of the third inning. It was his second home run of the week as he turned in a solo home run in Jax State's 11-1 win over No. 21 Troy last Tuesday. The Montgomery, Alabama-native added two more singles.
The Gamecocks used eight pitchers on the day with the bullpen limiting SEMO to just a run over the final seven innings. The Redhawks extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Ty Stauss. SEMO had plenty of chances to pull away throughout the game but stranded 15 on the base paths. The eight Jax State pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts .
Junior
Owen Arndt picked up the win after tossing the final 1.2 innings.
Jax State will be on the road for the next five games, beginning with a Tuesday rematch with Samford in Birmingham. The Gamecocks will be looking to sweep the season set with the Bulldogs after a 12-6 win in Jacksonville on Feb. 18. Jax State will open Conference USA action next weekend with a trip to Miami, Florida for the first league series against FIU.
