BOWLING GREEN, KY. – Jacksonville State women's tennis fell 4-1 against Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon. The Hilltoppers took the doubles point then won three out of four courts in singles to take the win over the Gamecocks.
With Sunday's results, Jax State sits at 5-4 on the year. Western Kentucky improved to 8-4 with the victory.
Lea Erenda and
Ava Thomason lost the first doubles match 6-0 on court three to Sunskrithi Damera and Maraiana Zegada.
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel then dropped their match against Sofia Blanco and Rachel Hermanova in a 6-3 final on court two to claim the doubles point for WKU.
Polina Ramenskaja and
Zuzana Pavelekova were losing 5-3 to Mia Miranda and Emily Schut on court one, but their match went unfinished once the Hilltoppers took the point to go ahead 1-0.
Patel and Damera finished the first singles match on court four. Damera won 6-0 in set one and 6-1 in the second to take the match win. Erenda and Blanco then finished on court two with Blanco getting the victory. Set one was decided in a tiebreaker by a score of 7-6 (7-2) in favor of Blanco. Set two resulted in Erenda losing 6-2.
With WKU up 3-0, Ramenskaja was able to defeat Hermanova on court one to get the Gamecocks on the board. Ramenskaja won set one 6-4. Set two went to tiebreakers with Ramenskaja coming out on top 7-6 (9-7).
Anna Syrova and Miranda finished a competitive match on court three with both sets resulting in tiebreaking wins for Miranda and the Hilltoppers to clinch the win. Set one ended 7-6 (7-4), while set two ended at 7-6 (7-3).
Artigas and Pavelekova's matches on courts five and six went unfinished. Artigas took set one in her match against Zegada on court five 6-4 before losing the second 7-5. Set three was unfinished. Meanwhile, Pavelekova dropped the first set against Schut 7-6 (8-6). Pavelekova then won the second 6-3 before her court six match was unfinished as well.
The Gamecocks return to action on Friday, March 14, when they take on Sam Houston at home. The Gamecocks then face Murray State Saturday, March 15 at home also.
