Jax State Wraps Up Road Trip At UAB

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State returns to Birmingham to wrap up a five-game road trip with a visit to the south side of town and a Tuesday contest with UAB on Young Memorial Field.

First pitch on the UAB campus is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.

Tuesday's trip to Birmingham is the second on a week after disposing of Samford last Tuesday night. Jax State will be looking to shake off its Conference USA opening series setback last weekend at FIU in Miami.

GAMECOCK STORY LINES

•             Jax State leads the series against the Blazers, 32-20. The Gamecocks and Blazers met for a rare three games in a season in 2024. The two clubs faced off in Jacksonville on March 13 with Jax State posting a 14-3 win over UAB in seven innings. The Blazers held serve on Young Memorial Field on April 23 with a 14-8 win. Jax State claimed an 11-8 win over UAB in its final non-conference outing of the season. Dating back to the 2015 season, the Gamecocks have won 10-of-the-last-14 meetings, including an eight-game winning streak from 2015-2020. The Gamecocks are looking for their first win over the Blazers in Birmingham since the 2019 season in a game played at Regions Field. The last Jax State win on the UAB campus came during the 2013 season. UAB and Jax State will wrap up the season set on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium on April 22.

•             The Gamecocks begin the week as the one of the NCAA Division I Baseball leaders in triples. In the first 24 games,  State has collected 13 triples (all at home) and ranks third behind Arizona (16) and Tartleton State (15). Senior Drew Collins, redshirt sophomore Cooper Blauser and junior Caleb Johnson have three triples each.

•             Junior Carson Hornung extended his on-base streak to 17 games last weekend at FIU. Hornung has reached base via a walk 25 times, which leads CUSA entering the week. Dating back to the last 20 games of the 2024 season and the 21 games in 2025, Drew Collins has reached base in 40-of-the-last-44 games. Individually, a pair of Gamecocks had double-digit hitting streaks snapped in the SEMO series. redshirt sophomore Cooper Blauser had an 18-game hitting streak snapped, while junior Colton Hegwood's 17-game hitting streak came to an end during the series. Blauser and Hegwood have hit safely in five straight games.

•             Jax State's pitching staff enters the week with a 5.22 earned run average. In the 19 games against non-Southeastern Conference teams (No. 12 Alabama & No. 18 Ole Miss), the staff ERA is 3.21. The starting pitchers have an ERA of 2.72 in those 19 games.

•             The Gamecocks return home this weekend for their Conference USA home-opening series with Liberty visiting Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium for the first time. Jax State has made back-to-back trips to Lynchburg in 2023 in the ASUN and 2024 as CUSA members. Series begins on Friday at 6 p.m.
