JACKSONVILLE—The Gamecock women's golf team is in North Carolina this week for their final tournament before the Conference USA Championship to take part in the Ironwood Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
In its three spring tournaments, Jax State has registered a fourth-place finish, a second-place finish, and an eighth-place finish.
At the team's most recent tournament at Lake Jovita, Rachel Camp was 12th with a one-over round of 72 and Lara El Chaib closed with a two-over 73 to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard during the final 18 holes.
The tournament will be a homecoming of sorts for coach Robbie Fields who spent three seasons as the women's assistant coach at ECU before coming to Jax State.
Last year at Ironwood, the Gamecocks were eighth in the field with a best 18-hole team score of 298 in the second round. Paula Perez Cubinas was the top finisher among those in this weekend's lineup with a best round of 76 in the second.
The team will play the first two rounds on Monday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will start on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Ironwood Gold and Country Club is a Lee Trevino design that is laid out as a 6,471-yard Par-72 for the tournament.
