JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State saw its nine-game winning streak on the turf at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium come to an end with an 11-1 setback to No. 23 Alabama on a blustery Tuesday afternoon.
The loss by Jax State is just the second on its home field. With the win, the Crimson Tide remain one of seven undefeated teams in NCAA Division I Baseball. UA broke a 1-1 deadlock in the fourth inning and limited the Gamecocks to four hits in the contest and the UA bullpen allowed one hot over the final 5.2 innings. The Crimson Tide plated a pair of runs in the fourth and expanded the lead with two more in the sixth. UA pushed six runs across the dish over the final three frames.
Both clubs traded single runs after big inning threats in each frame. Jax State limited the damage in the top of the inning with a run, while the Crimson Tide thwarted a big inning for the Gamecocks with just one run.

Colton Hegwood led the Jax State lineup with a pair of hits in hos first two plate appearances. The Brandon, Mississippi native, who was moved into the No. 2 spot in the order, extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double in the first inning. He added another double in the third inning to spark the scoring threat.

Jax State will venture out of the state of Alabama for the first time this season with a weekend trip to Oxford, Miss to face the Rebels of Ole Miss. The series gets underway on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The series continues with a pair of 1:30 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be streamed on the SEC Network+, the online platform of the SEC Network.
