JACKSONVILLE – Gamecocks men's tennis got a 4-3 triumph Thursday afternoon over Tennessee State.
Alin Fatu's third-set win over Jaes Adler Germinal on court four clinched the victory for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks improved to 5-5 on the season at the Jax State Tennis Courts, while Tennessee State drops to 0-7.
Tennessee took the doubles point to get on the board first. Germinal and Taj Hibbert defeated Fatu and
Marko Milosavljevic 6-4 on court two, while
Timo De Visser and
Logan Haga dropped their match 6-3 to Alexander Adamec and Jonasz Dziopak on court three.
The red-hot duo of
Zach Murphy and
Lucius Soller were leading Rohan Loubser and Tatenda Mutetwa 6-5, but their match went unfinished as the Tigers captured the doubles point.
Murphy got a win by default over Adamec on singles court five after winning the first-set 6-0. Adamec had to retire ahead of set two to grant Murphy the victory.
Charlie Penman and
Aman Dahiya grabbed straight-set wins in their respective matches. Penman defeated Loubser 6-2, 6-4 on court three, while Dahiya beat Nicholas Adamec 6-2, 6-4 on court six.
De Visser fell to Dziopak 6-2, 7-5 in a hard-fought match on court number one. Milosavljevic lost in a tough three-set match to Hibbert on court two in the second to last match to be completed. Hibbert won the first set 6-4 before Milosavljevic responded with a 7-5 win in the second. Hibbert clinched the match with a 6-2 final in the third set.
Fatu and Germinal wrapped the match up on court four in a highly competitive match. Fatu won the first set in dominate fashion, 6-0. Germinal responded with a 6-3 win in the second set. The third was close throughout with Germinal tying it at 5-5 late in the set. Fatu rattled off back-to-back game wins to clinch the set and the match by a score of 7-5.
Jax State will play their second consecutive home match on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Xavier.
