TROY, Ala. – Jacksonville State fell to No. 15 Troy, 12-2, on Tuesday evening at Riddle-Pace Field.
With the Trojans' win, the two in-state rivals split the season home-and-home for the second consecutive season. The Gamecocks routed the Trojans, 11-1, back on March 11 in Jacksonville.
Troy took advantage of the Jax State bullpen by expanding a 1-0 lead with four runs in the second and added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Jax State's pair of runs came in the sixth with an RBI from
Caleb Johnson and
Sam Silas. Silas joined
Brady Thomas with two hits in the setback. Reigning Conference USA Hitter of the Week continued to swing a hot bat with a lead off single. Junior
Grayson Ashe extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a single in the contest.
Junior
Ace Williamson recorded a hit to push his hitting streak to seven games. Freshman
Matthew Cash had a pinch hit base hit in Jax State's two-run sixth inning.
Troy finished off the midweek outing with a five-run seventh on just two hits.
The Gamecocks will travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee this weekend to open the month of May with a Conference USA series with the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee. The series gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. Friday. The series continues on Saturday at 3 p.m. and will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m.
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.
