BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Jax State fell 8-0 to Liberty in the Conference USA Championship game on Saturday, just one day after defeating the Flames 7-2.
Jax State defeated Liberty, WKU and Sam Houston on the way to its first CUSA Championship game appearance in program history.
With a win, Liberty earns an automatic bid to an NCAA Regional.
Jax State sophomore
Emma Elrod led off the contest with a single before a trio of strikeouts shut down the early scoring attempt.
The Flames opened up the scoring in the first frame on a sacrifice fly before scoring another run on an RBI single. Liberty tacked on another run in the second, extending the lead to 3-0.
Ashley Phillips led off the third inning with a single before Elrod reached on a fielding error with one out, but the Gamecocks failed to push a run across the plate.
A Liberty grand slam in the third inning put the game out of reach, 8-0.
Four Gamecocks earned CUSA All-Tournament Team honors, including
Makalyn Kyser,
Amber Reed,
Emma Elrod and
Kat Carter.
The four All-Tournament honors join three All-CUSA and three All-Freshman selections for Jax State this postseason.
The Gamecocks finished with 37 wins, the most wins since the 2017 Jax State team that finished 41-12 and played in the Tallahassee Regional.
