Jax Stats Falls at Auburn To Wrap Up Non-Conference Action

AUBURN, Ala. – Jacksonville State wrapped up the non-conference schedule with a 19-1 setback to No. 2 Auburn on Tuesday night at Plainsman Park.

The Gamecocks will quickly turn their attention to the final weekend of Conference USA action with a trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky for a series against Western Kentucky. The series in the Bluegrass State will get underway on Thursday night on the WKU campus. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The Tigers, who scored 46 runs in their series last weekend against the Gamecocks of South Carolina, continued the offensive trend on Tuesday with a five-run first inning that that propelled AU to the win. The Tigers collected a trio of home runs, including a first inning grand slam, six doubles. AU also took advantage of 10 walks by Gamecock pitching in the contest and finished with 16 total hits.

Senior Drew Collins quickly extended his on-base streak to 20 games after a lead off single to start the game. After the Collins hit to start the contest, AU starter Andreas Alvarez retired nine-of-the next 10 Gamecocks. Junior Brady Thomas started the second inning with Alvarez' lone walk issued.

The third Gamecock to reach base was Sam Silas, who was hit-by-a-pitch in the sixth. Senior Carson Hornung registered a double for his fifth consecutive game with a hit. Sophomore Hudson Walburn's double in the seventh averted a shutout, plated Hornung for Walburn's second RBI on the last two Tuesday outings after a home run versus Alabama State.

The Thursday and Friday games with the Hilltoppers will be streamed on ESPN+. All three games will carried on the Gamecock Sports Network.
