Volleyball Ends Non-Con Schedule at Jacksonville University

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jax State volleyball wraps up the 2025 non-conference slate at Jacksonville University's Dolphin Volleyball Classic. The Gamecocks play Jacksonville on Sep. 18 at 5 p.m., Florida A&M on Sep. 19 at 2:30 p.m., and West Virginia on Sep. 20 at 12 p.m.
 
The Red-and-White are coming off a 2-1 weekend at Bradley's Family Weekend Tournament last week where they beat Bradley and Central Michigan. Jax State opened the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of the Braves before losing 3-1 to Kansas City on Sep. 12. The Gamecocks ended the event with a 3-1 win over the Chippewas on Sep. 13.
 
Kayla Williams continued to lead the Gamecocks' offensive attack with 37 kills on an average of 3.36 kills per set in the Bradley Tournament. Sophia Schweikert followed Williams closely with 36 kills on an average of 3.27 kills per set. Amaya Tolentino had 28 kills on 2.55 kills per set, Charlee Solomon had 12 kills, and Sanni Rantanen had 11 kills.
 
Solomon led the Gamecocks with 100 assists in the three matches. Defensively, Luci Wilkinson showed out with 48 digs on an average of 4.36 per set. Morgan Blazzard had the next most with 26, Solomon had 21 digs, and Madison Konopka had 20. Rantanen had the most total blocks with seven, followed by Solomon with six.

Scouting Jacksonville: The Dolphins are riding a three-match winning streak after going 3-0 in last weekend's Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Fla. Jacksonville won 3-1 over Charleston Southern and 3-0 over South Carolina State on Sep. 12. Against Bethune-Cookman on Sep. 13, the Dolphins won 3-0. The two losses Jacksonville has endured this season came against Alabama in a 3-1 final on Aug. 29 and versus No. 9 ranked Pitt on Sep. 7. The match against Pitt ended in a 3-1 final. The Dolphins were picked to finish fifth in the ASUN this season in the league's preseason poll. Breanna McDonough, Jacksonville's senior outside hitter, was chosen for the Preseason All-ASUN Team. Jax State's record against Jacksonville is 2-0 all-time with their last meeting resulting in a 3-0 Gamecocks win on Oct. 22, 2022.

Scouting Florida A&M: The Rattlers went 1-1 in the FAMU Invitational on Sep. 11 and Sep. 13. FAMU beat McNeese 3-2 on Sep. 11 and lost 3-1 to Georgia State on Sep. 13. Florida A&M was projected to finish first in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the league's preseason poll. The Rattlers' libero Dylan Hoskins won the SWAC's Preseason Libero of the Year Award. Hoskins was named to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team along with outside hitter Iyonnie Sanford. FAMU's middle blocker Farah Farooq and setter Mackenzie Taylor were named to the Preseason All-SWAC First Team. The Gamecocks and Rattlers have played three times all-time with FAMU holding a 2-1 record over Jax State. The last time the teams played was on Sep. 21, 2024, when FAMU defeated the Gamecocks 3-0 in Lafayette, La.

Scouting West Virginia: The Mountaineers have gotten off to a perfect 9-0 start to the 2025 season. Last weekend, West Virginia played in the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic in Queens, N.Y., where they went 3-0 against St. John's, Marist, and Delaware State. The Mountaineers beat St. John's 3-0 on Sep. 12, downed Marist 3-0 on Sep. 13, and defeated Delaware State 3-0 on Sep. 14. West Virginia was picked to finish 15th in the Big 12 this season according to the conference's preseason poll. The matchup between West Virginia and Jax State on Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs.
