Gamecocks Set For Road Game Against Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Jax State women's basketball hits the road to face Sam Houston on Thursday. The Gamecocks are coming off a pair of wins last week at home to grab hold of solo third place in Conference USA.

Last Time Out
In Pete Mathews Coliseum on Jan. 24, Jax State defeated the UTEP Miners 73-60 to improve to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in league play. Jax State had a balanced offensive attack with five players in double-figures. Makala Hobdy and Adriana Jones tied for a team-best 13 points, Mina Djurdjevic scored 12, Eden Sample added 11, and Mya Barnes scored 10, respectively. The Gamecocks shot 43.3% from the field, 42.9% from three, and 90% from the free throw line against the Miners.
 
Jones' Impressive Weekend
Adriana Jones scored a team-best 20 points in a home win against New Mexico State on Jan. 22. Jones then tied for a team-high 13 points in the win versus UTEP on Jan. 24. The 20 points against the Aggies is the second most Jones has scored this season. On Nov. 13, the Troy transfer had a career-night scoring 26 points on 9-of-15 from the floor.
 
Shooters Shoot
The Gamecocks rank first in CUSA with an average of 8.4 threes made per game. They also have shot 160 threes thus far, which also ranks first in the league. At Kennesaw State on Jan. 17, Jax State hit a season-high 14 threes, including seven made shots from range at halftime. Against the Owls, the 14 makes were on an efficient 28 attempts.
 
Dynamic Duo
Jax State has seen Barnes and Jones step their game up in CUSA action. Both athletes are tied with 12.1 points per game in league play which leads the Gamecocks. Barnes also averages a team best 9.7 rebounds per game. Barnes averages 11.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per contest on the year. Jones averages 10.7 points per game this year.
 
Barnes All-Conference Campaign
Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 minutes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season. Barnes averages 11.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and steals per game this season and is playing at a possible all-conference level as she averages 12.1 points per game and 9.7 boards per game in CUSA play.
 
Series History
Sam Houston leads the series 3-2 all-time against Jax State with Thursday's contest marking the sixth time the teams have faced one another. Jax State won the first ever meeting 58-56 at Sam Houston on Feb. 8, 2024. Sam Houston won the most recent matchup 55-53 in the first round of the CUSA Tournament on March 11, 2025.
