Volleyball Set For CUSA Matches Against WKU

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State volleyball is back at Pete Mathews Coliseum for their second-straight weekend of CUSA matches against Western Kentucky Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Gamecocks are coming off a pair of losses to Liberty on Oct. 2 & 3. Liberty won both of those matches 3-0.

Sophia Schwiekert led the Gamecocks across the two matches with 21 kills on 3.50 kills per set. Lauren Buchanan added 13 kills on 2.17 kills per set. Delaney Moon and Buchanan led Jax State with 13 digs. Moon averaged 2.60 digs per set, while Buchanan averaged 2.17 digs per set. Sofia Varela had a team-best 37 assists on 6.17 assists per set. Taya Nordmann had six total blocks to lead Jax State.

Varela ranks 10th in Conference USA with 306 assists on 5.28 assists per set. Nordmann is seventh in the league with 50 total blocks on 0.86 blocks per set. Nordmann has 11 solo blocks and 39 block assists across 58 sets played thus far. Moon is 10th in CUSA with 134 digs on 2.73 per set.

WKU ranks first in CUSA in hitting percentage at .286 on 1,901 attempts with 787 kills. Jax State hits .185 with 631 kills on 1,766 attempts. WKU has played in 60 sets this season, while the Gamecocks have played in 58.

WKU is 10-6 on the year and 4-0 in CUSA play after beating Missouri State twice last week. Western Kentucky won both matches 3-0. Missouri State is tied for fifth in CUSA.

Jax State is 0-7 all-time against the WKU Hilltoppers. The Hilltoppers won the first ever meeting 3-0 at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky., on Oct. 7, 2023. Most recently, WKU won 3-0 at home against Jax State on Sep. 27, 2025.

The Gamecocks currently sit in 10th place in league play with an 0-4 mark in CUSA play. Meanwhile, WKU is in solo first place at 4-0 in conference play. The Hilltoppers were the preseason CUSA favorites.
Jax State follows up the WKU matches with a road trip to New Mexico State on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17.
