Women's Hoops Hosts Liberty Thursday

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's returns home Thursday night to face the Liberty Flames. The Gamecocks versus the Flames is one of five remaining home games this season.

Last Time Out
Jax State is coming off a 71-51 loss at Louisiana Tech on Jan. 31. Maria Sanchez-Ponce led the Gamecocks with 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting against the Lady Techsters. Mya Barnes scored 16 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds against LA Tech. Jax State was 17-of-50 from the floor against the Lady Techsters and made six threes in the contest.
 
Sanchez-Ponce's Best Outing
Sanchez-Ponce was one of the top returners from 2024-25 for Jax State. Sanchez-Ponce played her best game offensively at Louisiana Tech on Jan. 31. Sanchez-Ponce scored a season-high 17 points against the Lady Techsters. Sanchez-Ponce's previous best game came against LaGrange in the season opener where she scored 16 points.
 
Djurdjevic Stepping Up
Against Sam Houston, forward Mina Djurdjevic recorded a 10-point, 11 rebound double-double. That marked the first career double-double by the freshman from Serbia. Djurdjevic's best game prior to Jan. 29 came when she scored a career-high against UC Davis on Nov. 29, 2025. Djurdjevic had to step into a starting role as the Gamecocks were without Brooklyn McDaniel. She continued to start against LA Tech in McDaniel's absence where she scored five points, pulled down three rebounds, and had three steals.

Mya Barnes ranks tied for fifth in CUSA with an average of 1.1 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fourth in the conference averaging 2.1 made threes per game, is tied for sixth in the league with an average of 8.4 rebounds per game and is 17th in CUSA averaging 11.5 points. Adriana Jones is tied for 24th in CUSA, averaging 10.1 points per game.
 
Stepping Up In Conference
In CUSA play, Barnes leads the way averaging 12.7 points per game and average 9.3 rebounds per contest. Brooklyn McDaniel averages 11.3 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game, Adriana Jones averages 10.3 points in conference play. Barnes' 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds have her playing at a potential all-conference level with a month left of regular-season games remaining.
 
Series History
Jax State and Liberty have squared off seven times all-time with the Flames leading the series 5-2. Jax State lost the first ever meeting at Liberty 67-57 on Jan. 29, 2022. Liberty won the most recent matchup 71-55 in the Pete on Feb. 27, 2025. Jax State defeated Liberty 59-58 on March 9, 2022, in the ASUN Conference Semifinals on a buzzer-beating layup to highlight one of the wins for the Gamecocks.
