AUBURN, Ala. — Jax State softball had its five-game win streak snapped in a midweek contest at Auburn, falling 10-3 to the Tigers on Wednesday night at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Gamecocks managed to take the first lead of the game, but were unable to hold the advantage due to Auburn's offensive attack that picked up nine hits, including a late-game grand slam to put it out of reach.

Jax State got right to work in the first inning, kicked off with a single by Morgan Nowakowski who later scored after a chaotic infield single by Ashley Phillips that began in foul ground and rolled fair down the first base line. Amber Reed capped off the scoring output in the first after an RBI single for herself to make it a 2-0 game.

However, that would be the only lead that the Gamecocks could hold for the rest of the night as the Tigers fired back with an RBI double, immediately followed by a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to quickly take the lead.

The Gamecocks were able to cut into the deficit in the third inning after scoring off a fielding error, but it would be the last score that Jax State could plate.

Auburn added one run each in the third and fourth innings before an eventual grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to give the Tigers their tenth and final run.

As a team, Jax State tallied six hits that came from six different batters, along with batting in two runs.

Freshman Yulai Woodruff came in relief in the second inning and pitched 4.1 innings against the SEC foe, where she gave up four runs off four hits and four walks, along with striking out four batters as well.

The Gamecocks will return home for the second consecutive weekend, this time hosting the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs for a three-game series, beginning on Friday night at 6 p.m.
