Barnes Picked For All-CUSA Second Team and Defensive Team

DALLAS, Texas – Jax State women's basketball star forward Mya Barnes has been named to the 2026 All-Conference USA Second Team and to the CUSA All-Defensive Team. Barnes has anchored the Gamecocks league leading defense all season and averages nearly a double-double this season.
 
Barnes leads the Gamecocks averaging 11.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 32.8 minutes per game this season. She also has eight double-doubles this season to lead Jax State. Barnes' scoring average ranks 19th in CUSA, her 8.1 rebounds rank her tied for sixth in the league, and she makes an average of 2.0 threes per game which is the sixth highest in the league.
 
Along with her offensive production, Barnes has 35 blocks for the second consecutive season, averaging out at 1.2 blocks per game. Her 1.2 blocks per game is tied for the fifth most in CUSA. She also leads Jax State with 36 steals this season for an average of 1.2 per game.
 
In conference play this season, Barnes' averages improve to 11.3 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 34.6 minutes per game. Barnes had a career-high 22 points in a win at New Orleans on Nov. 22 this season. Later in the year, she set a career-best 15 rebounds at UTEP on Feb. 26, including 10 boards in the first quarter. Barnes also scored 20 points against the Miners and against Delaware on Feb. 7.
 
Barnes has scored in double figures in 19 of 29 games she has appeared in this season and pulled down double digit rebounds in 10 games. She had a career-high five blocks against Mercer on Dec. 6. Barnes was chosen as a preseason All-CUSA player prior to the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
 
Barnes and the Gamecocks are set to face UTEP in the first round of the 2026 Air National Guard CUSA Basketball Championship on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Huntsville, Ala. The event will take place at VBC Propst Arena. Jax State is the seven seed in the tournament.
