JACKSONVILLE – As part of an ongoing effort to strengthen and protect Jax State's premiere athletic brand, the Gamecocks have refined the athletic department's brand standards for the upcoming 2026-27 seasons.
In conjunction with the University's transition to FBS football and Conference USA in 2023, Jacksonville State University and its athletic department moved to fully embrace its beloved "Jax State" moniker. Used by fans and teams alike for nearly a century, the name sparks a special identity for the Northeast Alabama-based campus and helps set it apart from similar sounding universities or geographical confusion.
During that process, the athletic department retired a series of JSU and Jacksonville-branded logos. To honor the University's rich athletic tradition, Jax State brought back to life the vintage Fightin' Gamecock "AKC" logo that was used by some of the earliest Gamecock teams in the 1950's after the school changed its mascot from the Eagle Owls in 1947.
As teams and vendors alike made the progressive brand shift, Jax State rolled out new brand standards and guidelines for the 2024-25 year. Now, following months of reviews and discussions, Jax State has updated those standards for the first time to improve consistency and clarity across the board.
While primarily subtle refinements, key updates include a required white outline to the primary stacked Jax State mark when used on a black background in order for the original black outline to be noticeable.
- In the one-color version of the primary Jax State mark, the University Red color is now an option along with original black and white options.
- The One Color All Black version has been removed and replaced with the Two Color Black and White AKC, along with a standardized outlined version of the aforementioned Two Color Black and White AKC to help it stand out on darker backgrounds. (Marks 04 and 03, respectively).
- Last year, there was no acceptable version of a one color white AKC mark. This year, Jax State reintroduced a revamped version of the One Color White AKC that provides flexibility of usage without sacrificing the integrity of the AKC mark to do so.
From a conference standpoint, fans will notice the league more prominently displaying a stacked version of the CUSA mark. This mark will be required on competition uniforms, signaling a change to the patch design found on several Gamecock uniforms.
