DALLAS, Texas – Jax State closer
Skyler Hutto was named to the Midseason Stopper of the Year Watchlist, the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The junior has been elite out of the bullpen for Jax State, compiling 10 saves through three months of action, currently tied for second in the nation in saves. The Trinity, Alabama, native has also earned three wins, including two in Conference USA play. In 20 appearances, Hutto has pitched 29.0 innings and has only given up four runs, all earned, while scattering 12 hits. He has fanned 31 opposing batters and has kept opposing offenses to a .124 batting average. He strikes out opponents at a rate of 9.6 strikeouts-per-nine-innings and has a 2.58:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Hutto and the Gamecocks return to CUSA play this weekend as Jax State hosts New Mexico State. Times have changed for the weekend, with Friday's game still starting at the scheduled 6 p.m. time, but Saturday moving up to 2 p.m. and Sunday moving up to 11 a.m.
