Volleyball Hosts UAH Monday For Exhibition Match

JACKSONVILLE – Jax State volleyball gets the 2026 season started hosting UAH for an exhibition match Monday at the Pete Mathews Coliseum at 6 p.m.
The exhibition match is the first contest for first-year head coach Tim Ebbecke and his new staff.
"I am excited to get other people in our gym and compete against someone different on the other side of the net," Ebbecke said. "UAH is a talented program with long success, so it will be a good read on where our program is and what we need to work on moving into our nonconference schedule."
The Gamecocks are coming off a 14-15 record in 2025 and 8-8 finish in Conference USA play. Jax State tied for fifth place in the league last season, marking their best finish in CUSA since joining the league in 2023.
Meanwhile, UAH is coming off of a 24-8 record last year and 15-5 conference run. The Chargers lost in the Gulf South Conference tournament but still qualified for the NCAA Division II South Region where they fell to Lynn.
The Gamecocks return seven letterwinners from 2025 to this season's team. The returners include Sophia Schweikert, Izzy Whittaker, Gemma Morris, Selin Sakiroglu, Reese Tiesing, Chloe Mittelstadt, and D'Yanna Spicer. Jax State welcomes 11 newcomers to the fold.
The Gamecocks' newcomers include seven transfers and four freshmen. Sophomore setter Addison Stone is a transfer from Marshall, Delaney moon is a junior defensive specialist from Fairfield, Lauren Buchanan is a sophomore outside hitter from Texas Tech, Azavia Thomas is a junior outside hitter from Charlotte, Krista Kostoff is a junior middle blocker from Gonzaga, Taya Nordmann is a junior middle blocker from Youngstown State, and Sofia Varela is a sophomore setter from Long Island University.
The first-year athletes include Claire Evans from Libvertyville, Ill., Riley Huff from Cartersville, Ga., Anna Ray from Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Mia Duong from Corpus Christi, Texas.
Following the exhibition match against UAH, the Gamecocks will play in an intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. The regular season begins on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. when the Gamecocks host Jacksonville University in the 2026 Gamecock Classic.
Jax State will play Southern University on Aug. 29 at 2 p.m., then conclude the Gamecock Classic against Southern Miss also on Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
