2009 OUTLOOK:
Became the first player in OVC history to be named preseason first-team All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association…is a second-team Louisville Slugger pre-season All-American, Ping!Baseball third-team pre-season All-America and is on the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List…Baseball America named him as the fourth-best prospect from this summer’s Cape Cold League, while ESPN’s Keith Law has him as the 13th best prospect in the country for the 2009 season…an outstanding year as a sophomore, but coaches fell his best days are still ahead…has thrown very well and just continues to get better and better each day…very driven young man that wants to be the very best he can be…expected to be one of the leaders of the pitching staff.

SUMMER BASEBALL: Played for Falmouth in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League in 2008…was a relief pitcher and was selected to the Cape Cod All-Star team after posting a 1.97 earned run average in 22 appearances…finished with a 3-3 overall record with five saves…named the fourth-best prospect by Baseball America from the Cape Cod Baseball League.

JSU CAREER:
(2008) As a sophomore, was named to the Ohio Valley Conference first-team after leading the conference with an impressive 10-2 record with two shutouts…finished the season with 79 strikeouts, which was the second most in the OVC and had a 3.87 earned run average…named OVC Pitcher of the Week three times during the season after going a perfect 8-0 against conference members…made 15 appearances and had 14 starts, tossing two complete games…had seven games, where he allowed six hits or less in five or more innings on the mound…earned his first win of the season on 3/2 at College of Charleston, where he allowed just three hits in 6.0 innings, with nine strikeouts…earned his first OVC Pitcher of the Week honor on March 24, after he tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over Murray State, scattering five hits in 6.1 innings…was named the OVC Pitcher of the Week on May 12 after throwing a seven-inning complete game shutout over Tennessee Tech, allowing just two hits, with four strikeouts and had a no-hitter into the sixth inning…named OVC Pitcher of the Week on May 19 after throwing a complete-game shutout over UT Martin, allowing four hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk to win his 10th game of the season…posted a 3.21 ERA vs OVC opponents, while posting 54 strikeouts to just 17 walks…right-handers hit just .237, while the left-handers hit .311…allowed just one earned run over his final 19.0 innings on the mound to end the season.

(2007) Was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Freshman team after posting an impressive freshman season with a 6-3 overall record on the mound…started the most games of the season of any pitcher in the OVC with 17 starts and posted a 5.91 earned run average…tossed 88.1 innings and had 67 strikeouts to just 34 walks, allowing 58 earned runs…his 67 strikeouts was the second most by a freshman in the OVC…88.1 innings was the 10th most in the OVC…made his collegiate debut and earned his first win on 2/18 at Middle Tennessee State, where he scattered four hits in 5.0 innings as the Gamecocks earned a 3-0 win…had a season-high 10 strikeouts in JSU’s 7-2 win over Northwestern State, where he pitched a season-long 8.1 innings on 3/11…won his OVC debut after allowing just four hits and recording seven K’s vs Austin Peay on 3/24…earned OVC Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just four hits in a 12-0 complete-game win at Murray State on 5/19.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for former Gamecock standouts Wes Brooks and Todd Mixon at Oxford High School for five years…helped team win the 2006 Calhoun County Championship, where he was named to the All-Tournament squad…was named the outstanding defensive player as a senior…threw a no-hitter against Class 4A power Hokes Bluff.

PERSONAL: Full name is Benjamin Alan Tootle…son of Jim and Kathy Tootle…born on January 9, 1988…has one older brother, Sam…lists the Atlanta Braves has his favorite baseball team…majoring in Biology at JSU.
