James Hobbs has announced that Halley Morell will join the Jacksonville State golf program as the Gamecocks’ assistant coach.
Morell comes to JSU from UTEP, where she spent that past two seasons at the Miner’s graduate assistant coach. A program that doesn’t have an assistant coach, UTEP relied on Morell to handle the duties of an assistant coach.
In her two seasons with the Miners, Morell led helped lead the women’s team to a pair of wins, the Little Rock/A-State Invitational in 2017-18 and the Lady Red Wolf Classic in 2016-17. In the 2017-18 season, they claimed eight top five finishes in 10 events.
Morell joined the UTEP staff as a graduate assistant for the 2016-17 season following a distinguished playing career at Robert Morris and Penn State.
Morell spent two seasons (2012-14) with the Colonials and two more (2014-16) with the Nittany Lions. She recorded one win, two runner-up finishes, nine top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes during her collegiate career. She led the Northeast Conference in scoring average and number of top-10 finishes as a sophomore at Robert Morris, where she was also the conference Player of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The native of Brecksville, Ohio is a veteran of national and international competition. She won the Dayton, Ohio Regional Qualifying Tournament for the 2016 USGA Women's Four Ball Championship. She also finished ninth out of 144 entries in the Women's Western Amateur Championship in 2014 and 2016, advancing to the round of 16. She finished 10th overall in the Medal Play Qualifier in 2016. Morell was runner-up at the Women's Ohio State Amateur Championship in 2015 and was the 2016 Women's Ohio State Amateur Championship Stroke Play Medalist and Match Play Semifinalist. She earned Player of the Year honors on the TaylorMade-Adidas Collegiate Tour in 2014.
A four-time WGCA All-American Scholar, Morell graduated from Penn State with highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude) and a degree in Communication Arts & Science. She is eraned her Masters of Business Administration at UTEP.
