Kevin Revis begins his sixth season as the Gamecocks’ offensive line coach and his eighth season with the program.
Revis has been a part of what has been unprecedented success by the Gamecocks since John Grass took over in 2014, serving as an offensive graduate assistant that worked specifically with the offensive linemen. In seven years at JSU, he has been involved with a conference-record five Ohio Valley Conference championships and an impressive 68-21 combined record that includes an improbable 47-7 mark in OVC play.
His first two seasons saw all five starting offensive linemen earn All-OVC honors in each, while four Gamecocks were named to the All-OVC First Team in each the 2016 and 2017 seasons, a feat that had only happened twice in the OVC’s history that dates back to 1948. His third campaign in 2018 saw four linemen named All-OVC, with three on the first team and one on second team.
The 2020-21 season that was split due to the COVID-19 Pandemic saw the Gamecocks play an FCS-high 13 games, win their sixth OVC title in seven years and earn the No. 4 National Seed in the FCS Playoffs.
Three offensive linemen earned all-OVC after the unprecedented season, led by All-American Tylan Grable, who came to JSU as a tight end and was molded into an All-American tackle by his sophomore campaign. Joining Grable on the All-OVC squads were Cam Hill and Zack Cangelosi.
The “War Pigs” blocked for the top offense in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2019, one that gained 419 yards per game. They also helped protect a JSU passing game that led the OVC and ranked 14th nationally with 296 yards per game. At the conclusion of the season, Michael Shaddix was selected to the All-OVC Offensive Line.
That 2018 unit saw Tyler Scozzaro, BJ Autry and Darius Anderson earn first-team All-OVC honors, while Hunter Sosebee was a second-team pick. Autry was on every FCS All-America Team and then became just the fifth Gamecock ever selected to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He was the first JSU offensive lineman to earn the honor. He would later sign with the Seattle Seahawks.
In 2018, Revis’ line paved the way for one of the most prolific attacks in school history, one that rolled up 6,465 total yards, the third-most in a season in school-history, as well as a school-record 3,864 passing yards. The Gamecocks also scored 520 points, third-most in school history.
2017 offensive line unit had three All-Americans in Justin Lea, Dylan Cline and Tyler Scozzaro, while B.J. Autry joined the trio on the All-OVC First Team. Darius Anderson was a second-team pick. The two seniors on the line each earned opportunities in the NFL, with Lea being invited to Jets camp and Cline to Cardinals camp.
Lea played his way onto every FCS All-America squad in 2017 while also making history in the classroom. He won the OVC Scholar-Athlete Award and JSU’s Eagle Owl Award, the highest honor a student-athlete can win from both institutions. He was also the first player in JSU and OVC history named to the National Football Foundation’s prestigious National Scholar-Athlete Team and one of 13 finalists from all divisions of football for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
That 2017 line also cleared the path for All-American running back Roc Thomas, who was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Year before being signed by the Minnesota Vikings.
His first season as the Gamecocks’ offensive line coach in 2016 saw his unit pave the way for the best rushing attack in the OVC and the seventh-best rushing offense in the nation. JSU ran for over 250 yards per game and Revis’ front line received its credit at season’s end.
All five of Revis’ starting offensive lineman received All-OVC honors in 2016, with center Casey Dunn grabbing All-America recognition from every outlet. He was joined by Justin Lea and Nick Johnson on the All-OVC First Team, while Dylan Cline and Kyron Samuels grabbed Second Team honors.
Revis was integral in the development of one of the best offensive lines in OVC history in 2015, when the Gamecocks had four of the five First Team All-OVC linemen. The foursome of Blake Burks, Adam Wright, Lea and Dunn marked just the third time in league history and the second since 1956 to have four of the five first team offensive linemen on the team.
Dunn was an All-American at center for JSU, anchoring a unit that paved the way for a school-record 7,613 yards, the first 7,000-yard season in school history. The JSU front line opened holes for a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, with Troymaine Pope setting a school and OVC record with 1,788 yards and Eli Jenkins breaking the school rushing record by a quarterback with 1,161 yards.
Revis assisted with one of the top front lines in the FCS in his first season as a graduate assistant in 2014, one that paved the way for a rushing game that led the Ohio Valley Conference and ranked fourth nationally with over 285 yards per game en route to posting a 10-2 record and an 8-0 mark in OVC play to win the school’s fourth OVC title. The JSU offense set a school record with over 510 yards of total offense per game in 2014, thanks in large part to Clark’s offensive line that featured All-American Max Holcombe, OVC Freshman of the Year Justin Lea and All-OVC selection Adam Wright.
A native of Dayton, Tenn., Revis prepped at Rhea County High School and was a finalist for Tennessee’s Mr. Football Award after his senior season in 2008. An all-state player and the Region 4-4A Offensive Lineman of the Year, the three-star recruit signed with Tennessee and spent two seasons with the Vols in Knoxville.
He transferred to Chattanooga in 2011 and started up front for the Mocs for three seasons. By the time his senior season came to an end in 2013, Revis was a First Team All-SoCon selection and a team captain on UTC’s first SoCon Championship team since 1984.
In May of 2018 he married the former Patterson Young and the couple has one daughter, Miller.
