Biography

OUTLOOK: Has great potential as both a hitter and a pitcher…should be more comfortable with the team and staff in her second season at JSU…in practice, she is dominant both at the plate and in the circle, and if she can convert that into games, she can be one of the most dominant players in the OVC.

2008: Appeared in 49 games for the Gamecocks as a junior, earning the starting nod 47 times…was third on the team with a .319 average, while also belting five home runs and driving in 27 runs to earn OVC All-Newcomer honors…was also third on the team with 10 doubles…hit .356 in OVC play with two home runs and 12 RBI…hit .478 against left-handed pitching and .400 with the bases loaded…drove in a season-high four runs at Southeast Missouri on May 3, when she went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a two-run double…had 11 multi-hit games, including three games with three hits…had three appearances in the circle early in the season, posting an 0-2 record in 9.2 innings pitched.

PRIOR TO JSU:
Played two seasons for head coach JoAnne Graf at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla…as a sophomore started three games in the circle for the Seminoles, posting a 2-0 record and a 2.86 earned run average…struck out 18 batters in 14.2 innings and held opposing hitters to a .192 batting average…had 14 plate appearances and picked up six hits, one walk and drove in four runs…as a freshman, tossed 74.1 innings, which was 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference…made 19 appearances in the circle, starting 14 times, was 6-4 with six complete games and two shutouts…picked up her first collegiate win with a complete game and seven strikeouts against UConn on March 7, 2006, a game in which she also pickep up her first collegiate hit…also tossed a complete game against UCF on May 2, when she tied a career high with eight strikeouts.

HIGH SCHOOL:
Played four seasons at Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla…coached by Danny Hensley and her father, Doug Collins…was named a Class 5A First-Team All-State selection in both her junior and senior seasons by the Florida Sportswriters Association…was also the Northwest Florida Daily News Player of the Year and an all-area selection in each her junior and senior seasons after earning second-team all-area honors as a sophomore…led the Eagles to three district titles, a berth in the Elite 8 as a junior and to the state Final Four as a junior…also helped NHS into the USA Today/NFCA Poll, where the Eagles were ranked as high as 11th…pitched every game for NHS as a junior and senior and was the Eagles’ team captain and MVP after posting a 57-5 record and a 0.37 ERA in the circle and striking out 753 batters in 403 innings…also hit .352 with 75 hits, 10 home runs and 61 RBI in her last two seasons…played travel softball on Gold High Intensity.

PERSONAL: Born on June 6, 1987, in Bossier City, La…the daughter of Doug and Kelly Collins…has one sister, Allison…her father, Doug, played football at the University of Alabama and was a member of UA’s 1979 National Championship team…was an honor student at Niceville High School and was featured in Who’s Who Among American High School Students…is majoring in elementary education at JSU.
