Former Gamecock goalkeeper Katelyn Geddings returns to the program as a graduate assistant after concluding her days in goal in 2012.
She will work primarily with the Gamecock keepers and assist the staff in other roles throughout the season.
Geddings, a native of Warrior, Alabama, spent last year at Sewanee University of the South as assistant soccer coach and also served as an assistant on the track and field staff for the Tigers. She helped Sewanee to a 13-6 overall mark in 2014 and advanced to the Southern Athletic Association Tournament semifinals.
Following graduation in Jacksonville in 2013, Geddings stayed in the area by helping the Jacksonville High School soccer program. She helped guide the Golden Eagles to a pair of area championships, one Elite Eight appearance and a season record of 16-3-1. Geddings also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Birmingham Southern, instructing the Panther’s goalkeepers.Â
She closed out her Jax State career ranked second on the program’s all-time career saves list with 291 stops. In her four seasons in red and white, Geddings posted 10 shutouts and had a goals-against average of 1.43, which lists her third on the statistical chart. As a junior in 2011, she was credited with 139 saves and added 132 stops as a senior in 2012.Â
Geddings was named Second Team All-Ohio Valley Conference as a goalkeeper in 2011 after leading the league in total saves along with the best save percentage in the conference at .842. Her save total ranked her among the leaders among NCAA Division I keepers in 2011. She averaged 6.6 stops per match as a junior and ranked fourth in the OVC with five shutouts. Geddings claimed OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honors during her junior campaign after totaling 24 saves in a weekend against Austin Peay and Murray State. She shares JSU’s single game record for saves with 20 with Michelle Japak after posting the mark against UT Martin in 2011.
Prior to her arrival on campus as a freshman, Geddings attended Corner High School in Warrior, Alabama. CHS did not field a high school soccer team, but she played two seasons for the Alabama Olympic Development squad and played club soccer for the Birmingham United. She also kicked two seasons for the CHS football team and was voted the 2007 Most Valuable Special Teams Player. Geddings was also active in track and field on the prep level. She was selected the Jefferson County Most Valuable Runner for small schools.
She is the daughter of Jim and Toni Geddings. Geddings earned a bachelor of science degree from JSU in psychology with a minor in coaching in 2013.
