Making his return to The Friendliest Campus in the South in 2020 is new assistant coach Jacob Hepp. He was a part of Garvey's original staff at Jax State in 2018 as a volunteer assistant when the Gamecocks went 18-14 while holding residence inside Kennamer Hall. That year, JSU earned the No. 4 seed in the OVC Tournament where it would defeat SIUE for the program's first postseason win in nine years.
Hepp began his coaching career at Atherton High in 2011 in his hometown of Louisville, Ky. He soon moved across town to help powerhouse Sacred Heart Academy where he and Garvey (at Mercy Academy) dominated the national prep ranks over the next few seasons. Garvey's 2014 national champion team finished 40-1, losing only to Hepp's Sacred Heart bunch in five sets. Hepp moved into the collegiate ranks in 2016 at Lindsey Wilson College, and later joined Garvey at JSU as a volunteer in 2018. Upon JSU’s assistant position opening during the offseason, Garvey brought Hepp back aboard full time.
