Jacksonville State volleyball announced the hiring of assistant coach Tim Ebbecke on May 22, 2023. With the addition of Ebbecke, an accomplished leader with over a decade of coaching experience, the Gamecocks brought in an impressive piece to first-year head coach Derek Schroeder’s staff.

Ebbecke comes to Jacksonville State after one season as the head men’s volleyball coach at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich. There, he guided a rebuilding Saints program to some key victories in 2022, including three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference wins and a massive triumph over cross-town rival Adrian. In addition, Ebbecke’s squad produced two All-WHAC performers, two Academic All-WHAC selections, and one WHAC Champions of Character honoree.

Prior to his time at Siena Heighs, Ebbecke had a short stint as an assistant women’s volleyball coach and recruiting coordinator at Elon. The Phoenix netted a strong recruiting class of four heralded prep stars under Ebbecke’s coordination.

Before joining Tendler’s staff at Elon, Ebbecke spent two years as an assistant coach at The Citadel. The Bulldogs produced an amazing 2021 campaign with his assistance, finishing as SoCon Champions and earning the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament bid. Ebbecke helped The Citadel post their first winning record and best overall and conference records in program history and recruited the league’s Freshman of the Year. Under his watch, one student-athlete was named to the AVCA East Coast All-Region Team and the Bulldogs secured six SoCon Player of the Week awards, three All-Conference Team selections, and one SoCon Player of the Month honor.

Ebbecke spent the 2019 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Purdue. He was the Boilermakers’ co-defensive coordinator and middles and opposites coach, generating an immediate turnaround for their defense. Purdue was a 16th seed and served as a host for the NCAA Volleyball Tournament after scoring their second-best Big Ten record in the previous 32 seasons. The Boilermakers improved from tenth in 2018 to second in the conference in blocks per set and ended up with their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2013. Furthermore, Purdue landed three AVCA All-America honors, with one of those being middle blocker Blake Mohler.

Jax State’s new assistant was also a volunteer assistant coach at Texas Tech in 2018 and has extensive coaching experience on the club volleyball circuit. He was a head volleyball coach for The Academy Boiler Juniors Volleyball Club, Guns Up Volleyball Club, and East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club, and served as an assistant with the NC Elite Volleyball Club. Shortly after concluding his playing days, Ebbecke served as an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Panther Creek High School in Frisco, Texas.

Ebbecke played at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina where he was a Division I men’s volleyball student athlete. He was a multiple time conference champion with the Trojans, where he was named to the All-Conference Team after being an individual statistic leader.

A native of Commack, N.Y., Ebbecke earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice criminology and general psychology at Mount Olive in May 2013 before pursuing a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies at Texas Tech University. He currently resides in Jacksonville.
