Kevin Kean joins the Jax State program after serving as the Head Track and Field Coach at Tiffin University.

“We are excited to welcome Kevin to the Gamecock family,” said Provence, “Kevin is an accomplished assistant and head coach that has worked with several national qualifiers and All-Americans.”

In just three seasons at Tiffin, Kean was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Coach of the Year twice and the GMAC Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2023. Kean also helped the Dragons win the GMAC Outdoor Team Championship in 2023 and the Indoor Team Championship in 2024 and 2025.

“I believe Kevin’s background in education and teaching, along with being a great communicator, sets him apart as someone who can recruit and develop elite level talent,” said Provence, “Kevin will lead our field event athletes, primarily coaching the multi, javelin, pole vault, and jumps.”

The Dragons posted two individual National Championships in the 400m and 800m under Kean, as well as earning a runner-up finish in the 100m. In the GMAC, Kean guided his student-athletes to several accomplishments, including two GMAC Male Athlete of the Year honors and three GMAC Freshman of the Year designations.

Prior to his most recent work at Tiffin, Kean served as the Head Track and Field and Cross-Country Coach at Bemidji State University. During his time at Bemidji State, the Beavers saw 16 program records and managed to qualify two individuals for the Division II Indoor postseason.

Kean also had a stint as an assistant coach with Tiffin from 2013-2016, where he guided the Dragons to a fifth-place team ranking finish at the 2014 NCAA Indoor National Championship and a sixth-place team ranking finish in the 2015 NCAA Indoor National Championship.

Kean began his assistant coaching career at his alma mater, Northern Michigan, in 2008, where Kean helped the Wildcats earn seven individual All-American honors and earn a 14th place team ranking at the 2012 NCAA Indoor National Championships.

Kean graduated from Northern Michigan with his Master’s degree in Exercise Science.
