JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State has signed a contract to play the University of Florida in football for the 2012 season, JSU Athletics Director Oval Jaynes announced on Monday at the JSU Board of Trustees meeting.
“We're pleased to announce that we have signed a contract to play the University of Florida in 2012,” Jaynes said. “They have one of the top programs in the Bowl Championship Series, having won two of the last three National Championships.
“It will be a challenge for our team, but I know our coaches, players and fans will be excited about the opportunity to play at Florida Field against the Gators,” Jaynes added.
Financial terms of the contract were not announced since they have not been finalized, but Jaynes did say it would be the largest payday the University has ever received.
Jacksonville State has faced just one other school from the Southeastern Conference, playing at Mississippi State in 2002 and again in 2006, but will open the 2010 season at Ole Miss.
