Quoting JSU Head Football Coach Jack Crowe
On the Tennessee Tech Game
“We felt very good about out preparation and performance last week against Tennessee Tech. It was good to come home. I do think that our players play better when we are at home, even though we have got one game that was a little unusual for us. Last week, I was extremely impressed with the leadership of this football team and that we started the game gaining momentum. We played sound football against a sound team. We represented ourselves well through the outcome of this game.
On Eastern Kentucky
“Thank goodness we're home again. We appreciate everybody that shows up. Hopefully this game will carry as much significance with fans as it does with the players and coaches. Eastern Kentucky is “the” traditional OVC team. Looking back over the years, they have the most wins. They've got a record in term of consecutive winning seasons, 31, I believe. We weren't happy with the outcome of last year's game. We're going to line up against a really good football team. We'll have to play as good an offensive and defensive football game as we can play. We will have to get a lot done on our kicking game. Their quarterback, T. J. Prier, is highly rated as far as stats go. Their defensive line has individually made a lot of tackles for losses and are highly regarded. They've got the leading intercepter in the country in their left cornerback Jeremy Caldwell. Phelps is the leading wide receiver in catches per game, if I'm not mistaken. I don't have to elevate anything about EKU. They've elevated themselves for a long time. We're a really good football team playing a very important football game against another really good football team. It doesn't get any better than this, and I'm honored to be a part of the program.
On JSU
“This will be the last home game for our seniors, and these seniors have been through a lot of adversity. I have never been around a team that was challenged more with adversity. Going back to when this team sat downstairs and heard that they were being bypassed for a Maine team just on the basis of the caliber of schedule or some very subjective opinion of a group of people. I took it personally and these seniors took it personally. We were also told we had an APR problem. After that, I think a lot of people were looking for this program to come unglued. I think the truest definition of a leader is that leaders overcome adversity. I've never seen a group of men recover this well from disappointments. Some were personal. Some impacted the program, and in order for the program to go on, our seniors had to keep going as well. We have the best offensive and defensive players in the conference and maybe the country. We're led by our talents, but also by our character. We're very fortunate.
