JSU Men’s Tennis Upends EIU, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches following a 6-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over Eastern Illinois on Wednesday at Samford University's Courington Tennis Pavilion. The match was played on the SU campus due to the inclement weather in the Jacksonville area.
JSU improved to 13-1 on the season and moved to 2-0 in OVC play while the Panthers fell to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
The Gamecocks captured wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to carry a 1-0 lead into singles. Bernado Bachino and Gustavo Holz defeated Jeff Rutherford and Matyas Hilgert, 8-3, at No. 2 and Chris Duke and Steffen Solomon won 8-0 over Vance Davis and Jamie Furth at No. 3.
JSU won No. 1 through No. 5 singles positions to wrap up the win. Scott Robertson beat Rutherford 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No.1 singles while Eduardo Saratt defeated Jordan Nestrud 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Bachino defeated Vuk Milicevic 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and Holz downed Hilgert, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Duke upended Firth, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
Jacksonville State continues it three-match home stand on Friday against Tennessee State at 1:30 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
