
JSU Men’s Tennis Loses 4-3 Heartbreaker To EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky captured a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to edge Jacksonville State, 4-3, in men's college tennis action on Friday at the Adams Indoor Tennis Center.
Carles Pons Escanilla and Steffen Solomon staged a three-set match that lasted just over four hours to decide the match. Escanilla took the first set 6-4 before Solomon rebounded to win the second set, 7-5, while Escanilla took the third set 6-3 to seal the win for EKU.
The loss snapped Jax State's seven-match winning streak as the Gamecocks fell to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. EKU improved to 13-8 overall and took over first place in the OVC with a 4-0 mark.
EKU claimed the doubles point to build an early 1-0 lead. Bernardo Bachino and Gustavo Holz claimed JSU's lone doubles win with an 8-5 win over Niklas Schroeder and Parul Verma at No.2.
Eduardo Saratt defeated Carlos Valdenebro 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Bachino claimed a 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 win over Mel Segota at No 3. Holz earned a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 4 to tied the match 3-3 with No. 6 singles heading into a deciding set.
Jacksonville State wraps up the two-match road trip against Morehead State on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Morehead, Ky.
