Jax State Women's Hoops Opens Road Trip At Tennessee State

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's women's basketball team will embark on its second four-game road trip of the season as it begins the trip in Nashville, Tenn. against Tennessee State on Thursday, Jan. 20. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. at TSU's Gentry Center.

Following the TSU contest, JSU will continue on to Clarksville, Tenn. to face Austin Peay on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Jax State-APSU match up will get underway at 5:15. Both games will be aired on the Gamecock Sports Network.

The Gamecocks (6-12, 3-4 OVC) dropped their pair of home games last weekend to Murray State and UT Martin, will look to get back in the win column on Thursday. Jax State will look to mirror what it did in its first Ohio Valley Conference road trip as it claimed wins at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. The Lady Tigers of TSU enters the weekend at 5-12 overall and a game back of JSU in the league standings at 2-5.

Junior Brittany Wiley has been a scoring mainstay for the Gamecocks, averaging 15.2 points per season overall and a sparkling 17.0 point average in conference games only. The Carrollton, Ga.-native has put together a string of ten straight games in which she has reached double digit scoring totals. Wiley established a new career mark against Murray State with a 27-point outing. She ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (33.7%).

Aiding Wiley in scoring has been junior Brittany Manning, who was tabbed the Adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second-straight week after combining for 39 points (19.5 ppg) against MSU and UTM. The Huntsville, Ala-product poured in a team-best 25 points against the Skyhawks, including knocking down five 3-pointers.

As a team in OVC competition, Jax State is averaging 68.6 points per game, which ranks fifth in the league. JSU is listed fourth in the conference in field goal percentage shooting in league games (41%). The Gamecocks average eight steals against league opponents, which is second-best in the OVC.

Following this weekend's trip to the state of Tennessee, JSU will begin the second half of the OVC schedule next weekend as it treks to Southeast Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 27 and closes out the month of January on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Eastern Illinois.
