
Jax State Men Fall In OVC Semis To Eastern Kentucky, 4-0

PADUCAH, Ky. – Jacksonville State's run in the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Championship came to a halt as top-seeded Eastern Kentucky downed the Gamecocks 4-0 in the semifinals on Saturday.
Jax State's 2011 season comes to a close with a 10-13 overall mark and 4-3 in OVC play. JSU advanced to the semifinals after blanking Morehead State on Friday in the opening round.
The Colonels took the lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The point came down to the third court after JSU's No. 2 pairing of Nenad Marcec and Axel Sundberg defeated EKU's duo of Niklas Schroeder and Philip Janz, 8-0. EKU's top team of Alex Das and Hugo Klientovsky turned back JSU's tandem of Brian Kenyon and Gustavo Holz, 8-2. The point was clinched after Parul Verma and Carles Pons of EKU edged Igor Santos and Felipe Watanabe of JSU, 8-5.
EKU moved closer to claiming the match after wins at No. 5 and No. 2 in singles. Holz dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Verma before Sundberg fell to Klientovsky, 6-3, 6-1. The Colonels moved on to the championship match with Philip's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Santos.
The match was the final one for Holz as he finished his Jax State career on a high note with an 11-9 mark in doubles action and six wins in his senior season.
