Gamecocks Earn Split at Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Kyle Bluestein went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Jacksonville State to an 8-2 win over Tennessee Tech in the opener, while Tech rallied for an 8-4 win in the second game.
Aaron Elias (4-1) had six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings of work to earn the win, while Jake McWhirter (0-3) got stuck with the loss for the Golden Eagles.
The Gamecocks (18-9, 3-2 OVC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Tech starting pitcher Jake McWhirter walked two and induced two fielder's choice outs at second to kick off the game, but a third walk to Ben Waldrip put runners on first and second for Kyle Bluestein. Bluestein notched his 23 hit of the season to score Sam Eberle and advanced to second on a passed ball at home on the play.
With Waldrip and Bluestein now both in scoring position, Eric Underwood clocked a two-RBI single up the middle to give JSU a 3-0 lead on the game.
The Gamecocks pushed the lead to 5-0 after scoring a run in the in the third and fourth innings, as Bluestein knocked in a run in the third and Andrew Bishop drove in a run in the fourth inning.
Tech scored its only runs of the day in the fifth inning after Chad Haynes had a RBI single and Devin Rivers scored on a passed ball to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Gamecocks answered in the eighth inning.
Eric Underwood joined Bluestein with a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, while six other Gamecocks combined for the remaining six hits of the game.
Chad Oberacker hit a pair of two-run home runs in the second game as Tech snapped a 7-game losing streak to Jacksonville State.
Oberacker gave Tech its first lead of the day in the first inning with a two-run homer in the first inning, but Jax State answered in the second inning.
The Gamecocks scored four runs in the second inning, thanks to a RBI single by Blake Seguin, a Coty Blanchard double to left field scored two more runs and Jake Sharrock followed with a RBI single as JSU took a 4-2 lead.
Tech tied the game in the home half of the second on an infield grounder and Austin Wulf had a RBI single to make the score 4-4.
