
Gamecocks Win Eighth Series With 9-7 Win over Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Coty Blanchard went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead Jacksonville State to a 9-7 win over Tennessee Tech as the Gamecocks claimed their eighth straight series with the Ohio Valley Conference win on Sunday.
Jax State improves to 19-9 on the season and 4-2 in the OVC, while Tennessee Tech falls to 9-17 and 1-2 in the conference. It marks the best start for the Gamecocks since the 1998 season and the best start under Jim Case.
Senior Jordan Beistline scattered six hits and had four strikeouts over five solid innings on the mound to improve to 4-0 on the season. Todd Hornsby pitched the final 2 1/3 innings to earn his eighth save of the year, which leads the Ohio Valley Conference. Chad Oberacker (0-1) got stuck with the loss after giving up five runs in just 2 1/3 innings.
The Gamecocks took the early lead after scoring a run in the first on a RBI double by Ben Waldrip and added another run in the second on a RBI single by Blanchard as JSU took a 2-0 lead.
Tech's Evan Frazier hit a solo home run in the home half of the second to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Gamecocks extended the lead with scoring three runs in the third.
Andrew Bishop had a RBI single, while Blanchard knocked in two more runs with a double as JSU built a 5-1 lead, before Sam Eberle scored on an infield grounder by Waldrip to take a 6-1 lead in the fourth.
Tennessee Tech scored a pair of runs on a RBI double by Chris Donaldson and a RBI single by Oberacker to cut the lead to 6-3, but Eberle knocked in Blanchard and Eberle singled home Jake Sharrock as JSU built an 8-3 advantage.
The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 8-6 in the seventh inning when Oberacker knocked in a run and Zack Stephens and Ben Burgess hit back-to-back home runs, but the Gamecocks added an insurance run in the eighth inning after Sharrock was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score Erik Underwood for the final margin.
Eberle and Bluestein each added three hits, while Waldrip and Blake Seguin had two hits each to lead the Gamecocks' 18-hit attack. Frazier led the Golden Eagles with four hits.
Jacksonville State returns to action on Tuesday by hosting UAB. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
