JACKSONVILLE – Andrew Bishop went 3-for-4 and hit his first career home run to lead Jacksonville State to a 13-10 win over UAB at Rudy Abbott Field on Tuesday evening.
Ben Waldrip and Erik Underwood each added three hits, while Jake Sharrock had a pair of hits as the Gamecocks' finished with 15 in the game to improve to 20-9 on the season.
Tanner Freshour (2-1) pitched one inning in relief to pick up the win for the Gamecocks, while Todd Hornsby recorded the final four outs to earn his ninth save of the year. Mark McKinley gave up five runs in just 1 1/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Blazers.
UAB (16-12) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, before the Gamecocks tied the game in the third inning on a two-RBI double by Sharrock and Bishop recorded his first RBI of the game on a double down the left field line.
Jax State added two more runs in the fourth after Bishop hit a two-run home run over the left field fence, and Scott Underwood drove in a run in the fifth inning to give JSU a 6-3 lead.
The Blazers battled back to take a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-double by Jacob German, but the Gamecocks took the lead for good in the home half of the sixth.
JSU pushed across six runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Waldrip, as Jax State built a 12-7 lead.
UAB added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth, before the Gamecocks scored the final run of the game in the eighth inning for the final margin.
German finished 3-for-4, while Jamal Austin and Andrew Manning each added a pair of hits to lead UAB.
Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Murray State this weekend. Saturday's double-header will begin at 1 p.m., while Sunday's single-game will also start at 1 p.m.
