
JSU Women's Tennis Falls To Georgia Tech In NCAA Tourney, 4-0

ATLANTA, Ga, - Jacksonville State's trip to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship ended in the opening round as No. 13 Georgia Tech topped the Gamecocks, 4-0, on Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the Georgia Tech campus.
JSU, the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Champions, wraps up the season at 13-11 overall. The Yellow Jackets move on to Sunday's NCAA Regional Championship against Arizona State. ASU outlasted the Rebels of Mississippi, 4-3, in the first match of the day. Jax State entered the match on a roll as it had won its last seven matches.
Tech got off to a quick start by claiming the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 3. The Yellow Jacket duo of Caroline Lilley and Jillian O'Neil downed Jax State's tandem of Raisa Guasti and Raphaela Lima, 8-2. The Gamecocks' pairing of Juliana Renesto and Rafaela Wenzel dropped an 8-2 decision to Tech's Sasha Krupina and Christina Ngo at No. 3.
The Old Gold and White clad Yellow Jackets maintained the momentum in singles, especially at the bottom of the line up. Tech entered the match with three nationally-ranked singles players. Lima and Renesto, playing four and five respectively, fell to Tech's Lynn Blau, 6-2, 6-1 to push the Yellow Jackets lead to 2-0. Renesto suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss at No. 5. Lima's setback snapped a six-match win streak for the sophomore from Sao Paula, Brazil.
Tech clinched the match at No. 1 as O'Neil, ranked 32nd nationally, turned back JSU senior Viviane Marani, 6-3, 6-0. Marani exits the JSU program as an All-OVC performer during her career along with senior teammate Martina Dessbesell.
