DALLAS, Texas – Jacksonville State's women's tennis team had two athletes tabbed for post season all-conference awards. Irene Artigas was named to the All-CUSA Singles First Team, and Sae Kaneko was chosen for the All-CUSA Singles Second Team and Freshman Team.
Artigas had a phenomenal senior campaign as she accumulated an impressive 11-1 record in singles action. Artigas helped Jax State to a 49-37 overall singles record, a 30-18 mark in doubles, and a 12-7 record overall. Artigas also added a 12-2 record in doubles play in 2026.
Artigas's season was highlighted by a 6-1, 6-2 win over South Alabama's Jana Rovira on March 21. Artigas's win helped the Gamecocks down the Jaguars 4-3 who were ranked No. 58 at the time by the ITA. The win over South Alabama was the highest ranked opponent Jax State women's tennis has ever beaten.
On top of her success on the tennis courts, Artigas was named to the 2026 CUSA Women's Tennis All-Academic Team on April 10. Artigas maintained a 3.92 GPA while working towards her degree in Management.
Kaneko led the Gamecocks in 2026 with a 13-2 record in singles while playing mostly in the No. 5 and 6 slots to help her make the All-CUSA Second Team. The freshman from Japan also had a team-best 13-4 mark in doubles to compliment her singles production.
Against No. 58 ranked South Alabama, Kaneko clinched on court six against Kenza Elakili. Kaneko won the opening set 6-2, then dropped the second set 6-4. She was able to clinch the Jax State win with a 6-2 triumph in the third set.
