JACKSONVILLE – Jake Sharrock went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs to lead Jacksonville State to a 6-3 win over Morehead State on Senior Day as the Gamecocks completed the Ohio Valley Conference sweep on Saturday.
The Gamecocks improve to 33-21 overall and 14-9 in the OVC and will enter next week's OVC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed UT Martin on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Jordan Beistline (6-1) scattered five hits with two strikeouts and did not issue a walk to earn the win in five solid innings on the mound. Hunter Rivers did not allow a hit over the final four innings to pick up his first save of the year. Noah Smallwood (1-7) got stuck with the loss for the Eagles.
Morehead State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Luke Bainer had a one-out double and Taylor Davis followed with a two-run home run to give the Eagles the lead.
The Gamecocks battled back in the home half of the first and tied the game after Blake Seguin and Erik Underwood each drove in a run to make the score 2-2.
Jax State took the lead for good in the third inning after Sam Eberle had a two-out single down the right field line and Erik Underwood followed with a RBI double to the right field corner that scored Eberle and give the Gamecocks a 3-2 lead.
Jacksonville State took control of the game in the sixth inning after Seguin scored on a Andrew Bishop sacrifice fly, then Sharrock drove in two more runs with a single to right center as the Gamecocks built a 6-2 lead.
The Eagles scored an unearned run in the ninth inning for the final margin.
Sharrock finished with four hits, while Matt McLaughlin and Seguin each finished with two hits to lead the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks picked up their 21st come-from-behind win of the season on Saturday and will be making their eighth straight appearance in the OVC Baseball Tournament as JSU has advanced every year since joining the league in 2004.
