Four members of the Jacksonville State football coach staff finished second in Scale Back Alabama, a weight loss program that included four-person teams across the state working to lose weight over a 10-week period.
Running backs coach
Jimmy Ogle, offensive coordinator Ronnie Letson, offensive line coach Adam Ross and tight ends coach Tommy Joe Whiddon lost a total of more than 120 pounds since January.
Scale Back Alabama is in its sixth year and is a statewide weight-loss designed to help Alabama fight obesity and to encourage participants to develop lifelong healthy habits. The program is sponsored by the Alabama Hospital Association and the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Each member of the JSU coaching staff pledged to lose 10 pounds and since all four members of the team reached the goal, the team was entered into a drawing for first, second and third place prizes. The JSU staff was randomly drawn from 514 eligible teams and each staff member won $500 per team member, or a total of $2,000 for the entire team.
There were nearly 7,500 four-member teams that registered at weigh-in sites across the state and nearly 30,000 participants were guided with weekly health tips that resulted in a total statewide weight loss of 148,963 pounds.
