KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team shot its second-straight 311 in Monday's final round to finish 12th in the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island's Turtle Point Golf Course.
The Gamecocks had the finish their second round, which was suspended by darkness on Sunday, early Monday before playing the final round afterwards. They capped the second-round 311 before going out and shooting another to wrap up the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
Junior Maya Parsons was the Gamecocks' leading performer, finishing with an eight-over 224 on the par-72, 5,972-yard layout. The native of Whitby, Ontario, opened and closed the tournament with a 75 and sandwiched those around a second-round 74. She tied for 16th in the 99-player field, helping JSU to the 12th-place finish out of 19 teams.
No. 39 Kansas won the event by three shots over Georgia State, whose Melissa Siviter shot two under to win medalist honors.
Freshman Anne Albrecht tied for 47th for JSU with a 54-hole score of 232, thanks to a final-round 75. The Winsen, Germany, native also shot 75 in Sunday's first round but finished a second-round 82 early Monday morning.
Sophomore Melania Bajo Geijo opened with a pair of 77s before a final-round 79 gave her a 54-hole score of 233 and a tie for 53rd, while sophomore Melani Sisto's 237 (77-78-82) tied for 65th. Sophomore Erin Gunnels rounded out the JSU lineup with a 256 (84-85-87) that tied for 93rd.
The Gamecocks wrap up a successful fall schedule that saw them win two events and finish second in another. This week's finish in a field that featured several teams ranked in the nation's Top 50 was their only finish outside of the top five this fall.
