JSU's Michael Bishop and Travis Stout Named Pre-Season All-Americans

TUCSON, Ariz. - Jacksonville State's Travis Stout and Michael Bishop were both named a Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American on Tuesday by Collegiate Baseball.
Both players were named to the third team by the newspaper, marking the first time the Gamecocks have had two pre-season All-Americans on the same team, and the first since Todd Hornsby was named to the prestigious list in 2012.
Bishop, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound native of Pelham, Ala., earned All-OVC first team honors after finishing the 2013 season with a .340 average. The team's primary center fielder as a junior also posted team highs in doubles with 21, triples with four, home runs with four and a .539 slugging percentage.
Bishop recorded 23 multi-hit games last season, led by a five-hit outing at Austin Peay on March 22. In OVC play, he hit a team-best .365 with 42 hits and 34 runs scored, also team highs. He also led the Gamecocks with 17 stolen bases on the year.
A 5-foot-9, 200-pound right hander from Smyrna, Ga., Stout used a record-breaking performance in the back end of JSU's bullpen to earn All-OVC second team honors in 2013. Stout set a new JSU record for saves in a season with 17 and also set the school's Division I record for earned run average in a single season at 1.42.
He made a team-high 31 appearances on the mound and posted a 3-0 record with his 17 saves as a sophomore. In OVC play, Stout appeared in 16 games and saved 12 of them behind a 0.49 ERA. Opposing batters hit .213 against him.
Jacksonville State, which finished the 2013 season with a 32-26 overall record and tied for third in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 22-8 league record, opens the 2014 season February 14-16 with a three-game series against Northwestern State at Rudy Abbott Field.
