
Men's Teniis Falls to No. 6 Kentucky

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team battled one of the nation's best on Sunday in as neutral court match as JSU fell 5-1 to sixth-ranked Kentucky on the Samford University campus.
The Gamecocks dropped to 2-7 on the year, while the Wildcats improved to 11-2 on the season. The two squads just played the singles matches as UK played Samford prior to its contest with Jax State.
The match was highlighted by JSU senior Felipe Watanabe's straight-sets win over UK's Michael Binder. Watanabe turned back Binder, 7-6, 6-2. Igor Santos tested UK's Beck Pennington, but posted a 6-3, 7-5 loss at No. 1. UK's Anthony Rossi claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Jax State's Axel Sundberg.
Nenad Marcec suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Alejandro Gomez at No. 3, while Felipie Diaz and Felipie Wenzel lost in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5.
The Gamecocks return to action next Saturday, March 2, as they travel to Florence, Ala. to face former Division II rival North Alabama. Match time is set for 1 p.m. on the UNA campus.
