JACKSONVILLE – Drew Ferguson, Jared Breen and Drew Turner each had three hits to lead Belmont to a 10-6 win over Jacksonville State in the second game of a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Rudy Abbott Field on a rainy Saturday evening.
James Buckelew (4-4) allowed just seven hits and four earned runs to pick up the win, while Jessie Snodgrass picked up his second save after tossing the final 3 2/3 innings for the Bruins.
Adam Polk (3-6) suffered the loss after giving up three runs in just 1/3 inning of relief for the Gamecocks.
Belmont (32-13, 18-5) jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Gamecocks after scoring three runs in the first and one in the third. Jax State came back to cut the lead to 4-3 in the third inning after
Paschal Petrongolo drove in a pair of runs and JSU tied the game in the fourth inning on a RBI single by
Adam Miller.
Jax State (26-21, 17-6) took a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning after Petrongolo led off with a double and moved to third on
Eddie Mora-Loera's infield bunt.
Michael Bishop then reached on an infield grounder to score Petrongolo and give JSU the lead.
Belmont battled back in the sixth inning and scored three runs on just one hit, taking advantage of three walks and a JSU balk as the Bruins took the lead for good with a 7-5 advantage.
The Bruins added a run in the seventh on a RBI single by Ferguson and two more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Dom Veltri and Diamond drew a bases loaded walk for the final margin.
Michael Bishop led the Gamecocks with three hits, while Petrongolo finished with a pair of hits and two RBI.
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m. as the Gamecocks look to avoid the conference series sweep.
