Jacksonville State will play the Auburn Tigers in football during the 2015 football season, athletics director Warren Koegel announced on Tuesday.
Â
The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Oct. 19, 2013, but with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri, the Southeastern Conference changed Auburn's schedule and the Tigers will face Texas A&M on that date.
Â
"We are very excited that Auburn was able to work with us and lock down a date after we were not able to play in 2013" said Koegel. "We had to adjust our 2015 schedule in order to play Auburn, and I know our coaches, players, fans and alumni will be excited to visit Jordan-Hare Stadium."
Â
Jacksonville State will face Auburn on Sept. 12, 2015, and the Gamecocks will now play LSU during the 2016 football season. Jax State and LSU were originally scheduled to play on Sept. 5, 2015, but will now play on Sept. 17, 2016. The Gamecocks are scheduled to open the 2014 season at Michigan State on Aug. 30, 2014.Â
"This is a very important game for Jacksonville State and I want to express my sincere appreciation to Jay (Jacobs) and his entire staff for working with us to make this game happen," added Koegel.
Â
Jacksonville State has faced five other schools from the Southeastern Conference, including Mississippi State (2002, 2006), Ole Miss (2010), Kentucky (2011), Arkansas (2012) and Florida (2012). The Gamecocks were the talk of the football world after defeating Ole Miss 49-48 in double overtime to open the 2010 season.
